CRACK STITCHING

Crack stitching is a structural repair method used to strengthen cracked masonry walls by installing stainless steel reinforcing bars into the mortar joints across the crack. These helical bars are bonded with specialist grout to reconnect and stabilise the masonry, helping prevent further movement and restoring structural integrity.

Over time, masonry cracks can develop due to foundation settlement, building movement, lintel failure, thermal expansion, corrosion, or general structural stress.

At Clover Construction, we specialise in safely stabilising and reinforcing cracked masonry through professional crack stitching techniques. We restore the strength of deteriorating brickwork caused by movement, settlement, or structural stress while maintaining the integrity and appearance of the surrounding masonry.

OUR STEP-BY-STEP APPROACH

01 INSPECTION

We assess the crack pattern and surrounding masonry to determine the cause and extent of movement.

02 PREPARATION

Cracked mortar joints are carefully chased out and cleaned to create a suitable channel for reinforcement.

03 BAR INSTALLATION

Stainless steel reinforcement bars are installed into the prepared joints using high-strength bonding material.

04 GROUTING

The channels are filled and bonded with structural grout to lock the stitching system in place.

05 REPOINTING AND FINISHING

Masonry is reinstated and repointed to match the existing brickwork as closely as possible.

06 CURING AND STABILISATION

The repair is left to properly cure, ensuring full strength and long-term performance.

07 SURFACE CLEANING

Any excess material is cleaned from the brickwork to restore a neat finish.

08 FINAL INSPECTION

We check the completed repair to ensure the structure is stable and the crack stitching is performing effectively.
